This topic shows you how to set up and customise your new or pre-owned Android phone, and do more with it like take and edit photos, block nuisance callers, set your phone number to private, save files and listen to podcasts. Courses include:
Interactive Guide – This interactive guide is a fun way to find out more about the features of your phone. Simply click on one of the pulsing circles to see short, easy to follow demonstrations and information cards. We cover “What’s In the Box”, as well as features on the front and rear of your new Phone.
Prepare to Setup (10min video, and interaction with your Phone)- This course is the first of two steps for anyone who has just been given a pre-owned Android phone and wishes to learn how to prepare it for their own safe use. In this first step, you will learn how to erase the phone and remove the previous owner’s details. This is known as a ‘reset’ and it must be completed before moving onto the second step, the Android phone: Setup course. By completing both courses, your phone will be set up and ready to use. Naturally, you should only perform this reset on a phone that has been given to you permanently, and not one that has been loaned to you temporarily. If you have a brand new Android phone, or one has already been reset, you can progress straight to the Android phone: Setup course.
Setup (20min Video, and interaction with your Phone) – This course is for anyone with a brand new Android phone, or a pre-owned Android phone that has been ‘reset’. If your Android phone is pre-owned and has not yet been reset, you will first need to complete the steps in Android phone: Prepare to set up. In this course, we will show you, step-by-step, how set up your phone in readiness to start using it safely.
Security & Privacy (15min Video, and interaction with your Phone) – This course is for anyone with an Android phone who wishes to learn more about the security and privacy features on their phone. In this course, we show you how to keep your Android phone secure and your personal information private, including how to set up a PIN and fingerprint security.
Accessibility (15min Video, and interaction with your Phone) – This course is for anyone with an Android phone who wishes to learn how to make their phone easier to use. In this course, we show you how to increase the size of the text, set up an alert for new messages and calls, use the magnifier glass for reading, and how to use your phone’s voice recognition feature.
System Settings (15min Video, and interaction with your Phone) – This course is for anyone with an Android phone who wishes to learn more about the system settings on their phone. In this course, we show you how to customise your phone so you can make it work just the way you like. We show you how to set up ringtones and alerts, how to select your preferred language, and set the date and time.
Quick Settings (15min Video, and interaction with your Phone) – This course is for anyone with an Android phone who wishes to learn how to quickly access some of the phone’s most useful features. We show you how to adjust sound and screen brightness, how to easily find your camera, Wi-Fi and mobile data connections, and how to use your phone as a torch.
Notifications (10min Video, and interaction with your Phone) – This course is for anyone with an Android phone who wishes to learn more about the little messages, or notifications, that pop up on their phone from time to time. Notifications can be very useful and are a great way to catch up on things if you’ve been away from your phone. In this course we show you what notifications are, where they come from and how to find, open and delete them.
Using the Camera (15min Video, and interaction with your Phone) – Take and share great photos using your phone’s built-in camera. We show you how to access the camera, take pictures, edit and share them with friends. A must-do course for anyone wanting to get the most from their smartphone.
Calls & Privacy (15min Video, and interaction with your Phone) – Learn how to use your phone’s built-in security features to block nuisance callers, keep your phone number private and control who calls you and when by using the clever Do not disturb feature.
Saving & Sharing Files (12min Video, and interaction with your Phone)- Smart phones come with a lot of space to save pictures, files and other important information. We show you, step-by-step, how to save those important documents to your phone’s built-in My Files app, so you can find them easily, even without Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Listening to Podcasts (15min Video, and interaction with your Phone)- Enter the wonderful and relaxing world of radio podcasts (pre-recorded programs). We show you, step-by-step, how to use the free ABC listen app to download and listen to your favourite radio programs. We also explain the different ways you can save precious mobile data when listening to podcasts.
